Democrats stroll out to protest Space contempt vote towards Holder

WASHINGTON -- Because the Republican-led Space voted to carry Atty. Gen. Eric H. Holder Jr. in contempt on Thursday, Democrats led by the Congressional Black Caucus walked out in protest.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco), the minority leader, joined the walkout, transferring down the stairs of the Capitol arm in arm with Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), the mythical civil rights chief. In all, 108 Democrats didn't vote.

“This isn't approximately oversight, that is approximately overkill,” Rep. James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.) stated. “There is one thing evil approximately the use of the techniques of the home to additionaa far ofa far offfl political aims.”

Pelosi mentioned that “what is occurring at the flooring of the home is a misuse of power” and a distraction from her most popular focal point of “jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs.”

“The Republicans have made up our minds to head after this legal professional general, and after him, who’s next?” she asked.

The Area voted Thursday to carry Holder in contempt for his refusal to show over files associated with Rapid and Furious, the botched gun-walking operation alongside the southwestern border.

The vote was the primary time a sitting Cupboard secretary have been held in contempt by the House.

Addressing journalists outside, Democratic leaders took turns attacking the Republican-led attempt as a political stunt. They walked out as a display of pressure to oppose the GOP strategy, they said.

And at one aspect in his comments Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) led his colleagues in an impromptu chant of “shame on you,” directed towards Republicans.

Calling the walkout a “magnificent nonviolent protest” in opposition to the Republican tactics, Lewis thanked his colleagues. He then known as for a second of silence.
