“Her advocacy on behalf of Afghan ladies is commendable, however she was conspicuously absent in each top enviornment of yankee women’s rights,” learn the letter, signed by greater than 20 feminist activists, together with a few former Sewall-Belmont board contributors and a earlier president. “Nor has she challenged her party’s anti-feminist schedule in any significant way.”

Sonia Pressman Fuentes, a co-founder of the Nationwide Group for ladies who sat at the museum’s board for roughly 20 years, stated she rallied feminist friends after listening to Bush were tapped for the prize. Even though their letter calls Bush “a non-feminist Republican figurehead,” Orígenes insisted their objection isn’t partisan; they'd no proceedings concerning the prize going ultimate 12 months to Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe. (PREVIOUS winners come with Nancy Pelosi, Tipper Gore, Katie Couric, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Billie Jean King.)

But a supply with regards to Bush defended the dignity as an even fit, noting the advocacy paintings first girls have historically performed at house and in another country — and the truth that Sewall-Belmont today hosted a couple of Egyptian girls activists dropped at the U.S. by means of the “women’s initiative” that Bush oversees at her husband’s presidential center.
